• Question: why do people have names ?

      People have names for identify them and also names have meanings and they described a person. The surname originally was linked what they did as an occupation (such as Baker). Names get passed down through history from generation to generation and get modified to the names we recognise now.

      So that people can talk about them behind their backs … or, more politely, when they are not present. Otherwise, we can refer to someone by pointing.
