      Hi
my favourite explosion is the one from Richard Hammond’s programme ‘Invisible Worlds’ – they used a special camera to show the shock wave in really slow motion. If you missed seeing it on telly, you can have a look at it on the web http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p006w4gz

Supernovae – a supernova is the explosion of a star, which happens when some really big stars come to the ends of their lives.

Interesting question, but I’m not sure I can have a ‘favourite’ explosion thomson – they tend to be bad things (especially in my line of work)! The most impressive explosion for me though has to be either the detonation of a nuclear bomb (the sheer force of it still to me is unbelievable) or a pyroclastic flow – a volcanic explosion that was witnessed with Mt St Helens. Impressive, but not positive things 😀
