Question: if you won the money how would you react would you be shocked that you won or would you of known you would of won and how serious would you take it , what would your life be like if you won would you change?

  Hi Bethanie – to win would be great, but none us should be shocked because we all have a 1/5 chance! It is a serious business to have any amount of money entrusted to you by a charity, so yes I would take it seriously. If I won, then I would do more science communication type things in the future, so in that sense, yes!

  I have no idea who is going to win so if it was me I would be hugely surprised and pretty pleased. I would take it very seriously -as to be given money by any funder is something that carries responsibility, and it would be great to actually create the webisodes of our research, something I have wanted to do for some time now. Would I change? Unlikely – I haven’t really changed that much since I was a PhD student.

  I’d be pretty surprised if I won because I’m up against some very stiff competition. I’d also be really pleased!
  The prize is £400 to be spent helping other people find out about science so winning wouldn’t change my life. I already run activities to help school children find out about science (a saturday club called Discover!), but the money would make it easier for me to help more school children.

  That’s a good question bethanie – personally I would be amazed if I won… delighted (ecstatic in fact!) but amazed – the other scientists are all exceptional and I have been both fascinated and intrigued by the answers they have written to these questions. I have learnt more about some areas of science in the past week than I have since school! They all deserve to win!
  If I won I would take it quite seriously – I would keep my word and try to set up the video blogs and webcasts for the project, and hopefully you would all be there to watch them! I would be over the moon if I won, so let’s just hope that I get to the final two! 😀
