Good question alekss,
Not always, but I have always had an interest in design and technology. I loved DT in school, and was always spending time in the workshops! I didn’t really see myself going into science, but I am really glad I did, I have never once regretted it 😀
As for my parents, they have always been really supportive and basically said that I could go into whatever career I please, as long as I enjoyed it and was happy. That’s the piece of advice I would give to you – do what interests you. My parents effected me in the way that they were always there as support (and still are!), and that meant that I was confident enough to go down a route that I really enjoyed 🙂
No, I when I was young I wanted to be an air traffic controller, then an actuary (a type of mathematical accountant), then a professional tennis player.
Neither of my parent are scientists or doctors – my father is in marine insurance, and my mother helped part-time at a local preschool. My father did give me some advice: don’t do marine insurance! Other than that, I was lucky that they were happy for me to do whatever I wanted.
