I would be surprised if no other planet has got the right environment and mix of gasses and temperature not to support life. What that life would be though is a different question altogether.
The Universe is so big, it seems like there must be something else out there that is living. So, yes, but I also think that it is likely to be a very long way away – probably too far away for us to communicate with in the near future. The reason for thinking this is that, if life developed from some fairly simple chemical compounds, and the building blocks are common throughout the universe (as they are – we can detect them in/around distant stars), then it should be able to evolve again given similar planetary conditions.
Why haven’t we been contacted? Probably because we’re too far away from our neighbors.
I think that it is a bit depressing if there isn’t! I don’t think we will know for certain any time soon, but it is nice to hope. It is a very big universe out there Rowley – I think it would be pretty lonely if we were the only ones in it 🙂
Emma there are many problems with your argument one we are not having any luck contacting other planets as far as I know so even if they have similar technology to us they may not have reached us two if they are more advanced than us they may think us savages due to the fighting and unworthy of contact Three they may be less advanced than us meaning we can not contact us however much we contact them also even if we communicated wit light(we may already I don’t know) it may be that competent enough civilisations to communicate with us may be so far away that it takes billions of years to reach them and billions of years for their messages to reach us so your answer is in my opinion not as planed out as it may be. Also if we have reached them would they understand our messages? Probably not. The idea that alien species speak any earth language is ridiculous it would be like assuming we could converse with a dog jus by speaking to it so we would have to take the translation period into consideration as well this could take many years if they have nothing to relate to this is why you could easily be wrong
