I think that dolphins are very intelligent, that they look after one another, and that most of the time they enjoy contact with humans. So, yes, they are cute, and they are special – but I think that there are probably also dolphin bullies, and dolphin rogues, just as with people.
Hi Channi,
Not sure that ‘cute’ is the word I would use to describe them, but I do think that dolphins are exceptionally intelligent. They are known to form friendships, communicate and even help humans in distress. What sums dolphins up for me really is a quote from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams… ‘On the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much – the wheel, New York, wars and so on – whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man – for precisely the same reasons.’ 😀
I think that dolphins are amazing mammals! It’s amazing that an animal which needs to breathe air can be so at home in the sea. They’re also incredibly intelligent.

Alastair – why far smarter than us? By what measure? By the way, I don’t count sensory acuity as being “smart” 😉
