      That’s a good question!
Personally, I have mixed feelings about this. I think that it is incredibly useful and interesting to find out about life in the past, indeed it can help us understand a lot about evolution and how things may be in millions of years to come.
I however find that my interests lie much more in the present and future. Don’t get me wrong, I think that life millions of years ago has a lot of relevance to now, but I find new technologies and things that can advance the human race at present much more interesting 🙂

I am interested in life a long time ago – I think we can learn from mistakes that happened and try to stop them repeating.

I’d love to learn more, but in terms of “discovering” I’m a little busy! Too many things to discover, and so we have to specialize, while keeping our minds open the discoveries of others.

I must say that I have a soft spot for trilobites. A few hundred million years as kings of the sea, then mass extinction with no close descendants (horseshoe crabs are the closest, I think).

Yes I am. Although it is not my area of research or expertise, I have always been interested in life in the prehistoric era. This has been encouraged lately by my 7 year old son who is mad about dinosaurs and has loads of books on them. It’s great fun!
