It’s a good job, although every job has it’s down sides. We’ve talked a lot about the up sides, but the problems include plenty of administration, cuts to research funding, ever tougher performance targets (such as publishing your work in some journals but not in others) and increasing student numbers with fewer people to teach. So, some of the problems are similar to those affecting school teachers! On balance, though, I’m very happy with a mix of teaching and research.
