      Hi

Science can help, inform, educate and provide opportunity, but world peace can only be achieved through human communication, understanding and compromise. That cannot be created scientifically, so no, there will never be world peace through science, but it may well act as a catalyst

No, I don’t think that it will come through science, but through politics, compromise and allowing others to live their lives as they choose. The possibility of controlling peoples’ action by technological methods, has been explored in novels like “Brave New World” but it never seems to work out – I think that the novelists are probably right!

I think that science could contribute to world peace by helping people to live comfortably with the resources they have available.
However, encouraging people to live peacefull together is more difficult. If people think someone else is getting better treatment than they are, they stop being peaceful.

The short answer to that is no. Peace comes through mutual respect and everyone treating everyone else the way they would like to be treated. If this ever happened, it would not only solve world peace but also world poverty and world hunger – because there are actually enough resources to go around, people just don’t like to share. Could science help? Social science can help point out where we are going wrong and physical science can help develop technologies that address terrorism – but technology can also develop ‘better’ weapons.

I would like to think so Jones, but I think that it would rely on some pretty significant breakthroughs!
For one thing, a lot of the arguments and politics between countries relies on fuel… who produces it, who sells it, who controls it. I think that if there were ever to be the chance of world peace, we would need to have discovered an energy source that could provide energy for everyone for free – that way no competing is needed 😀
